Leeds has an exciting opportunity available. We are looking for a self-motivated and creative software engineer to join our team as an experienced application development engineer. This position will be responsible for the software development aspects within our Product Development Department and for existing Leeds’ software applications. The position will also support our sales staff within the many imaging vendor software platforms. A candidate must have an intimate knowledge and command of software development concepts, as well as a solid background in Microsoft .Net application development and Image Processing/Computer Vision.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, integrate, implement, and support complex software systems for biomedical, scientific imaging, and machine vision applications.
- Develop robust and well-documented software solutions that can be distributed and replicated at multiple sites.
- Act as project leader with frequent communications to client, internal engineering staff, Product Development Team, the Custom Department, and the Sales Department.
- Assist in the validation of new equipment for clinical research and production applications.
- Test and debug prototypes and complete systems.
- Inspect and analyze scientific equipment and diagnose problems and make necessary adjustments to minimize service interruptions and equipment downtime.
- Support the sales team through trouble shooting and technical support both with Leeds’ application software and vendor software.
- Provide support to other instrument development projects, as needed.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of five year’s experience with machine vision and scientific imaging hardware and software.
- Application experience with LabView, MATLAB, Cognex VisionPro, MetaMorph, motion control, and robotics.
- Programming languages: Microsoft Visual Basic, Visual Studio, Microsoft VB.Net, and C/C#.
- Project Management preferred.
- Sales experience preferred.

Optical/Mechanical Assembly and Service Technician

Leeds' success is due to our ability to provide customers with excellent customer service and the desire to meet or exceed the needs of our customers.
Leeds has an immediate opening for a professional Optical/Mechanical Assembly and Service Technician to work in our Minneapolis office. This position will report to our Custom Department Director and primarily be involved with assembly, integration, calibration, and field service. The individual we are looking for will need to have a strong mechanical aptitude and optical and electrical assembly experience. This person will be involved with our various custom products but will focus largely on our Forensic Comparison Microscope Units.
Position Qualifications:
- One year certificate from a college or technical school in engineering, biomedical equipment, electronics, or a related field;
- Two plus years optical, mechanical, and electrical experience;;
- The willingness to travel;
- Strong computer software skills;
- Excellent customer service skills a must; and
- Microscopy experience, a plus.
