Leeds is proud of its reputation as a service company that will go above and beyond the basics when servicing your microscopes. Leeds provides full in-depth preventive maintenance for our customer’s equipment, as well as repairs in the field and at our Minneapolis facility. Leeds is well known for our skilled factory trained service personnel, and we stand behind our reputation. Leeds services all brands of microscopes through our network of trained and certified Service Technicians. Leeds has a large stock of replacement parts and microscope bulbs. Below is a description of what we do for most preventive maintenance services.

Leeds' Service Technicians provide the following:

  • Pre-cleaning evaluation and inspection
  • Test all components for proper operation
  • Disassemble unit as needed
  • Clean exterior of microscope and remove non-applicable labels
  • Clean optics
  • Align optics and illumination (includes testing all components for proper operation)
  • Check parfocality, alignment and resolution
  • As needed - remove old lubricant and replace with quality new lubricants
  • Check and set for proper illumination technique whenever possible
  • Affix service label with date, scope number and next service-due date
  • Inspect all mechanics and bearing systems
  • Detail all adjustments and repairs with costs on Leeds' Service Report
  • Post cleaning inspection
  • Calibration

Calibration

Leeds provides calibration services for stereo and compound microscopes with eyepiece reticles.  Leeds uses standards, which are traceable to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). For more information on NIST standards, please visit www.nist.gov.

Leeds is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 by ACLASS Accreditation Services (AC-1295) for the calibration of microscope optical micrometers. For more information about the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Scope of Accreditation and to view our Certificate of Accreditation, please visit www.aclasscorp.com.

Documentation

At the completion of each service, the customer is given a service report containing the microscope brand, type, ID number, notations of repair work done or needed, price for parts, preventative maintenance and repair. Leeds' Service Technician will go over the service report with the customer to explain the work performed and answer any questions that may come up.

Replacement Parts

When replacement parts are necessary, they will be installed at the time of service. Replacement parts, which are not a stock item, will be ordered and replaced at the earliest opportunity. Unless otherwise stipulated and agreed to, all parts are charged as an additional expense.

Emergency Service

If you should require an emergency service appointment for your microscopes, contact Leeds at 1-800-444-5333.  This number has an automated attendant outside our normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST.  A Service Technician or Customer Service Representative will contact you as soon as possible during the next  business day to make arrangements for service.

Leeds Service Warranty

Leeds warrants its labor and parts to be free of defects under normal usage conditions, for 90 days from the date of service.

A. Remedy for Defects: Remedial work provided at no charge (see subparagraph "D" below).

B. Warranty Calls: Calls for providing warranty work should be made to Leeds at 1- 800-444-5333. 

C. Exceptions to Coverage: Leeds will assume no responsibility for instruments with special modifications (mechanical stages, illuminations, head assemblies, etc.) which were not produced by the manufacturer of the instrument and are not subject to this warranty.

D. Customer Responsibility: It is the customer's responsibility to assure there is no misuse, neglect, droppage, malicious mischief, intentional damage, or service by anyone other than by Leeds’ employees or our agents to any instrument serviced under this agreement. Any damage for reasons above stated will cause this warranty to become void.

Severely Damaged Instruments

At the customer's request, Leeds will attempt repair of severely damaged instruments. In the event repair is not possible, our liability shall be limited to restoring the instrument to the condition in which it was received.

Special Modifications Liability

At the customer's request, Leeds will provide service on instruments with specially modified components, but assumes no responsibility for the repair or adjustment of any specially modified components (stages, illuminators, head assemblies, etc.) on any instrument.
