The Leeds Spectral Vision second generation LSV2 model offers an imaging tool that has rapidly been adopted by forensic laboratories to help reduce evidence screening bottlenecks and provide easy evidence documentation. Incorporating several unique capabilities, the LSV2 is an intuitive and versatile investigative tool for the forensic lab.
Unique Features of the LSV2:
- Highly sensitive, fast, high-resolution camera system; The LSV2 is designed
The LSV2 offers a highly sensitive, fast, and high resolution camera system with a 2.8mp 2/3 inch scientific CCD sensor which is more sensitive to light than the human eye, and by using CCD sensor as opposed to a CMOS sensor, provides brilliant images with very little background noise. During the development of the Leeds Spectral Vision system, Leeds performed exhaustive search and development of a camera that would provide sensitivity, resolution, and speed combinations needed for fluorescent, white light and infrared screening and documentation. Because the LSV2 is designed as a screening tool, the camera operates at full resolution with a speed of up to 40 frames per second to allow for real-time, highly detailed screening without a loss of picture resolution. The LSV2 system meets SWGFAST and SWGIT digital imaging requirements with a field of view (FOV) of 1.75 inches or less.
- Large variable Field of View and Working Distance; The LSV2 is designed with motorized parfocal zoom optics and a motorized series of chromatically corrected
The LSV2 offers enormous versatility in screening and documentation of wide varieties of evidence close-up lenses; this paired with the very high sensitivity of the systems’ camera allows the LSV2 to capture white light, infrared, and fluorescence crisp, clear, focused images with a FOV of ~1.0 inch to a distortion-free FOV greater than 25-30 inches. When working with a 30″ table height, the LSV2 offers a working distance between the camera and table of approximately 57″, allowing coverage of a 33″ x 45″ working area. The long reach of the LSV2, coupled with its height adjustable column and macro zoom lens system allows the examiner versatility not found in a handheld or magnifier based ALS system. The flexibility of the LSV2 allows the analyst the ability to easily screen and digitally document evidence from gross evidence views to close detail inspections.
- Repeatability of exact observation and presets for ease of use; Every image
LSV2 offers “Presets” to be saved by individual examiners for repeat observation taken with the LSV2 has metadata linked to the image which details exactly how the image was captured (wavelength of light, filter, even the motorized lens controls) and is displayed in the software and exported picture formats. At any point in time, a previously captured Leeds Vision image can be opened in the software and the metadata can be re-applied, allowing a forensic scientist to immediately start screening again at the settings that were used to capture the original image (including magnification). Additionally, the LSV2 has programmable presets; which allows an analyst to easily choose and then program settings such as “semen stain jeans” or “blood stains on black shirt” which at the touch of a button will go to the selected light/filter and motorize lens position, allowing the ability to rapidly and easily change lighting and observation techniques.
- Fanless system with high intensity LED technology; The LSV2, being a fanless system, prevents vibration and minimizes the effect of dust as well as preventing the risk of contamination of trace evidence. The LSV2 uses single wavelength LEDs with a use rating of over 20,000 hours of continuous use; providing high intensity uninterrupted light without start up or cool down periods.
- Network and LIM integration ready; The LSV2 is network ready, utilizing windows 7, 64 bit edition, with a forward facing Ethernet jack built into the base and quick
Leeds Vision Software computer access to allow IT departments the ability to easily integrate the LSV2 into existing networks and LIM systems. Leeds Vision 4.0 software comes with the system and can be installed on several computers, allowing examiners the ability to spend time screening with the LSV2 system, and time at their desk performing annotations, measurements, and more. The Leeds Vision software images export in standard image formats, along with software-industry standard XML metadata files for easy data incorporation.
